Take a look at this quote from one of the most vulnerable liberal members of Congress and see if maybe you can help me do something about his problem.
“I think there was concern that I wasn’t happy in Congress. Very candidly, this isn’t the greatest job I have had.”
That is a direct quote from Congressman Tim Mahoney (Florida-16-D) just a few months ago to a reporter for the Hill newspaper.
…..and it’s not the only reason you should take action.
Concerned Women Political Action Committee (CWPAC) is endorsing former Army JAG officer, Tom Rooney (R) who is running to replace Mahoney in the 16th district of Florida.
You might remember Mahoney as the candidate in 2006 who won his seat “by accident” when then Congressman Mark Foley resigned his congressional seat in disgrace just a few short weeks before the election. Because of the short time left in the campaign Foley’s name was left on the ballot – and despite every advantage, Tim Mahoney barely won.
This seat is now the most targeted race by pro-life, pro-family groups like CWPAC.
Before I tell you more about Tom and why I think he would make a fantastic member of Congress, I wanted to share with you just how deceptive some members of Congress can be when they claim the moniker “fairly moderate”.
Let me tell you my friend, Tim Mahoney is no moderate.
· He voted in favor of ENDA, the bill that would lead to discrimination of Christian business and severely
limit who they are allowed to hire, and voted against the pro-family movement.
· He voted in favor of hate crimes, which in fact could very well be named “thought control” as similar
laws in other countries have banned the Biblical teaching of homosexuality and have made it a crime
to call the homosexual “lifestyle” a sin.
· On the issue of life, Mr. Mahoney voted in favor of using federal government funding (your taxpayer
dollars) for destructive embryonic research.
· On the issue of handing out your taxpayer dollars to pro-abortion Planned Parenthood, Tim Mahoney
voted against a bill that would deny that funding.
Does that sound “moderate” to you?
That is why CWPAC is urging every one of our members to support Tom Rooney in his bid to retake the 16th Congressional District of Florida. This seat is probably our number one target this year.
While Tim Mahoney has done everything he can to mask his record from his constituents, this isn’t the reason CWPAC has endorsed Tom Rooney.
We endorsed Tom Rooney because of his strong stand on the issues.
· He’s pro-life and has committed to being a pro-life leader as a member of Congress. One of Concern
Women for America Legislative Action Committee’s top priority in 2009 will be to eliminate federal
funding of Planned Parenthood and Tom has pledged to do all he can to lead the charge.
· Tom is also pro-family, and will resist liberal efforts to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policies, which
would allow openly homosexuals to serve in our nations military.
· He has also pledged to fight amnesty for illegal aliens. Like you, he is frustrated that Congress has
dragged it’s feet and refused to build the fence and protect our borders. As a former criminal
prosecutor he has seen the impact of illegal aliens who commit felonies on American soil. He will
work hard in Congress to ensure that these felons are punished, but more importantly deported.
Help CWPAC defeat Tim Mahoney and replace him with a pro-family conservative.
Will you stand with CWPAC and do everything you can to help Tom Rooney win?
Tom is a U.S. Army veteran who served his country as an attorney in the Army JAG corps, along side his wife Tara, who is also an attorney. In 2002, Tom taught constitutional and criminal law at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He and his wife returned to Florida, where they now raise their three boys, Tom Jr., Sean, and Seamus Rooney.
Tom Rooney will make a fantastic member of Congress.
