Why Concerned Women PAC Endorses:
This Special Election in New York’s 23 district came about when “moderate” Republican John McHugh accepted President Obama’s call to be Secretary of the Army. Most New York pundits expect the special election to be held on around November 3, 2009. The process in New York to choose a nominee was done in such a way that a majority of Republicans weren’t allowed to have their voice heard.
Instead eleven Republican county chairmen chose the most liberal Republican they could find and nominated her as the Republican in this special election. This “Republican” is so liberal, Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer even invited her to one of his public events and didn’t extend the invitation to the Democrats’ choice. There have even been efforts to recruit Ms. Scozzafava to run as a democrat. And while those efforts may have been more satire, her voting record as a state Assemblywoman is more in line with her fellow democrat colleagues, rather than a Republican. She seems to be so far to the left, most liberal groups and union bosses are staying out of this race, because they would be happy with either the Republican or the Democrat. The Democrat is a little known democrat businessman who was also chosen by a small committee of local democrats. That’s why Concerned Women Political Action Committee endorsed Conservative Party candidate, Doug Hoffman for Congress. Concerned Women PAC is non partisan, and is not loyal to any party, only tried and true principles. This is also a very unique race. Even if you are one who prefers Republicans and are an active member of the party, you should be outraged over the fact that the nominating process was closed to the general public and the nominee was chosen by a very small group of hand-picked establishment Republicans.
What’s more, historically the Conservative Party of New York has almost exclusively given its endorsement and their line on the ballot to the Republican nominee. (New York is a very unique state in that there will be five party lines on the ballot). Not so this year. This year, because Republican leaders in the district (quite a few of them were appointed by the candidate they just chose) nominated an extreme liberal. The Conservative Party of New York felt it had no choice and chose to look for another candidate.
Here is a little more about State Assemblywoman Dedre “Dede” Scozzafava’s, voting record is:
· Voted twice to legalize homosexual marriage
· Supports abortion on demand. She even accepted the “Margaret Sanger Award” last year, see the You Tube video www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwDkpDQtgKA
· Has voted to allow tax payer funding of abortions
· Voted for massive state spending increases forcing higher state and local taxes
· Has been ranked very low by small business owners for her support of forced unionism
· On a scale of 100, she scored only 15 on a conservative scale, lower than 46 Democrats in the legislature
· In 2008, she even received the endorsement of the liberal Working Families Party – who also endorsed Barack Obama
No wonder Human Events columnist John Gizzi dubbed her the “Obama Republican.”
Now you can see why electing this particular Republican would be a disaster, not only for New York’s 23rd district but for the country as well.
You might wonder about the Democrat candidate as well, where does he stand?
He shares most of the same positions as the other liberal in the race. In fact, they are so alike, the local labor unions and other liberal groups including the Working Families Party are staying out of the race, because they would be happy to have either one working for them in Congress.
This is why Doug has been telling audiences that this isn’t just another race for Congress, this is a “fight for the soul of the Republican Party.”
Let me tell you why endorsing Doug wasn’t really a difficult decision. (press Release Announcement)
He believes that:
· Marriage is between a man and a woman
· Abortion is wrong and he will vote to protect human life
· Opposes repeal of “Don’t ask, Don’t Tell”, and allowing homosexuals to openly serve in the military
· Opposes Obama-backed health care reform and any “public option”
As a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Doug also is a strong supporter of conservative fiscal policy.
No more deficits and no more out of control spending. For Doug this is an important moral issue that truly impacts all families. And I can’t agree more.
