Every now and then, a candidate comes along that reflects our values and conservative principles so well that it would be a shock if we didn’t endorse them. Some people call it a “no-brainer.” Former Congressman Bob Schaffer, who is running for the open U.S. Senate seat in Colorado, is such a candidate.
That’s why Concerned Women Political Action Committee (CWPAC) has endorsed Bob for the 2008 election. After you hear more about Bob, I am sure you will want to support this true conservative as well.
Bob is running for the Senate seat because Senator Wayne Allard is retiring at the end of this next year. He is running against liberal Boulder Congressman Mark Udall, who seemingly has the backing of virtually every liberal interest group in America.
Political pundits and Washington insiders are convinced that this race is one of the most closely watched Senate races and have rated it a toss up.
These are the kind of races CWPAC likes to get involved in -- a race where there is a clear contrast between the candidates, where the contest will be so close, and where your actions will most assuredly make a difference.
How much of a contrast you ask?
Mark Udall is the poster child for a liberal voting record:
· Voted against the ban on Partial Birth Abortion – even though most doctors believe this barbaric procedure
is unnecessary.
· Voted against the Marriage Protection Act – and failed to defend marriage between one man and one
woman.
· Voted in favor of Embryonic Stem Cell Research – though there are much more promising results from adult
stem cells to cure disease and illnesses.
· Voted in favor of Hate Crimes – even though all crimes are “hate crimes”.
· Voted against the Unborn Victims of Violence Act – and denied that when someone violently attacks a
pregnant woman, there are two people who are victimized.
· Voted Against the Ten Commandments and the Pledge Protection Act – simple legislation designed to
reaffirm our Godly heritage.
And not surprisingly, in a move most likely appreciated by many of his constituents in liberal Boulder, Colorado, Congressman Udall even voted in favor of legalizing marijuana.
When Bob Shaffer was a member of Congress, he was a true hero for the family.
In fact, Bob would still be in Congress today if hadn’t been for a non-binding term limit pledge he signed when he was first elected to Congress in 1996. Not every member of Congress who has made a pledge like that has kept their word. That’s what makes what Bob has done so very special.
That’s the kind of man Bob is – and one of the many reasons CWPAC has endorsed him.
It’s clear that the stakes are high. The next president will most likely have the opportunity to appoint at least one justice to the Supreme Court who could very well change the court for decades. You and I are one Supreme Court justice away from seeing Roe v. Wade overturned.
That’s why it is so important that we keep seats like the one in Colorado in Conservative hands.
Bob’s liberal opponent will have plenty of money. He has already collected over a million dollars from various liberal organizations like the pro-homosexual Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and the Marijuana Policy Project that will do whatever it takes to destroy a conservative like Bob.
The last thing they want is a Senator who stands for the unborn and defends traditional marriage.
